Gita Vivrutti – Introduction
Gita Vivrutti – An Introduction
The greatness of the Mahabharata and its two crown jewels— Bhagavad Gita and Vishnu Sahasranama—has been praised across all sacred texts.
bhārataṁ sarvaśāstreṣu bhārate gītikā varā
viṣṇoḥ sahasranāmāpi jñeyaṁ pāṭhyaṁ ca tadvayam
viṣṇoḥ sahasranāmāpi jñeyaṁ pāṭhyaṁ ca tadvayam
Meaning: Among all scriptures, Mahabharata is supreme; within it, the Gita and Vishnu Sahasranama are most exalted and worthy of study and recitation.
Many commentaries exist on the Gita, but the works of Acharya Madhva—the Gita Bhashya and Gita Tatparya—capture its true essence.
His understanding is considered direct, as he is believed to have witnessed the discourse as Hanuman and was guided by Sri Vedavyasa himself.
Gita Vivrutti
The profound meanings of Madhva’s works were later simplified by Sri Raghavendra Tirtha (Rayaru) into a clear and accessible commentary known as Gita Vivrutti.
This work makes the wisdom of the Gita available even to those with basic Sanskrit knowledge.
